Grant from the Funding Program of the Free State of Thuringia for the Promotion of Research, Technology, and Innovation
Project description:
POxIR - Production of polycrystalline oxide IR windows and their integration into an IR detector
Period:
10I2023 - 09I2026
Objective:
Production of polycrystalline oxide IR windows and their integration into an IR sensor with high chemical, thermal and mechanical resistance to withstand harsh environmental conditions. The fabrication process will be characterized by resource-saving processes and the use of environmentally friendly materials.
The consortium working on this project includes
- Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS
- 5microns GmbH
- Thuringian Development Bank
- Micro-Hybrid Electronic GmbH

In the HIPS project (High performance sensor systems), industrial companies and research institutes in Thuringia are developing completely new, robust and highly integrated sensors based on the patented SiCer technology. The unique combination of silicon (Si) with ceramic multilayer technology (Cer) enables new applications in harsh environments. This pioneering technology is suitable for meeting trends such as increasing miniaturization, digitization and machine learning.
Micro-Hybrid is participating in two of the three joint projects:
VP 1: Research on a multifunctional substrate technology (SiCer) for high performance sensors - TP8: Material and technology development of SiCer based system components for sensors in harsh environments
In this project the members are developing a technology platform for highly integrated electronic systems with extended functionality of the sensors. The main goal is to monolithically bond LTCC and Si-MEMS systems. In addition to electrical functions, further features shall be integrated: thermal, fluidic and possibly extended electrical, in terms of capacitive or inductive additional properties. Such a system can improve the reliability of the components and enable new micro system solutions which have not been practicable so far.
Period: Sep 1, 2019 to Aug 31, 2023
VP3: Gas sensors based on SiCer substrate technology - TP4: Development of a NDIR gas sensor for applications in harsh environments based on SiCer system components
In the joint project 3 the possibilities of the SiCer technology platform for the realization of different sensors are investigated. A multi-sensor design visualizes the potential of SiCer technology by integrating currently different sensor systems for gas, temperature and pressure measurement.
Micro-Hybrid develops and evaluates the SiCer components: IR emitter and IR detector as well as SiCer sensors for pressure and temperature. In addition, research is dedicated to solutions for the processing of sensor-specific signals, the realization of data and communication interfaces, data management and energy supply.
Period: Sep 1, 2019 to Aug 31, 2023
Project: KerMuSens
The topic of the KerMuSens project is the development of ceramic multilayer structures with integrated high-resolution structures for use in sensor technology and high-frequency engineering. One goal of the project is the development of new fields of application by reducing the structure sizes, especially in the inner layers. Here structure sizes in the range of 10 µm to 30 µm are to be achieved. This project is supported by the Thüringer Aufbaubank.
